This week sees a couple of customer quilts completed. The first was a beautiful bright quilt in blues, pinks, greens & yellows. It was a really cheery quilt to do during a very cold week here in Victoria.
The toughest thing about this one was choosing a thread colour! I eventually went with a light grey - light grey has a way of blending beautifully with a number of other colours and it worked a treat on this quilt.
Here is a close up of the quilting - it's a little easier to see on the back. When choosing a quilting design I like to try and take inspiration from the fabric and those spiky daisies you can see quilted feature prominently in the border fabric. Decision made!
Quilted with So Fine Superior thread.
Next up was a sampler quilt - another nice bright quilt that the customer allowed me to do some custom quilting on. It is made up of 4 sampler appliqué blocks, so the challenge is to make those feature blocks pop!
I chose to quilt around the outer border with a lovely seashells computerised design to compliment the starfish on the fabric. I then free motion quilted pebbles around the appliqué which really did make it pop out and become the feature it should be! I quilted this with an off white which worked well with all the colours in the quilt. Thread was So Fine from Superior threads in 50 weight - my favourite thread!
Here is a close up of the appliqué and pebbles. Pebbles are one of my favourite background fills but boy are they time consuming!
Until next week, happy quilting!
